Microplastic Trapping Efficiency of Coral Reef Regrowth StructuresScience Fair project

Charlotte Phillips, from the Southwest Virginia Governor’s School, conducted the experiments for her science fair project entitled, Investigating Microplastic Trapping Efficiency of Coral Reef Regrowth Structures in Simulated Ocean Currents in the Presence of Modeled Acropora cervicornis, in the Baker Lab this past winter.

Charlotte won first place at Blue Ridge Highlands Regional Science Fair in the Environmental Engineering/Microbiology category. She also won the Ricoh Corporation Sustainable Development Award and the Stockholm Junior Water Prize, was selected to be a Virginia State Science and Engineering Fair Delegate, and is continuing to present her study at additional competitive science fairs. Congratulations Charlotte!
